Ageing & Sleep

As we age, sleep patterns and needs change. Older adults may experience difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep, often waking up more frequently during the night. They tend to spend less time in deep, restorative stages of sleep. Additionally, older individuals often wake up earlier in the morning. These changes are partly due to natural alterations in circadian rhythms and hormonal shifts. However, despite these changes, the need for adequate sleep remains constant. Sleep quality and duration become even more crucial in later life, as poor sleep can exacerbate age-related health issues and cognitive decline.
